I'm Hopping on the Giveaway Bandwagon

Free giveaways are all the rage right now, which I suspect is a very clever way to get consumers interested in products - even during a recession. I mean, have you checked out Free Grechen yet? Have you seen all of the available swag that is being given away? It's awesome!

So, I have an opportunity to take part in a giveaway sent my way by Lucky Magazines affiliate site, Lucky Style Spotter.

One of you could win 1 of 4 TAG Heuer (valued at $1,150-$4,500!). They want to know how you define your style: Sporty Stylist, Uptown Classic, Downtown Chic or Funky Fashionista? Click the image below for contest details. Simply fill out the contest form and upload a picture of you rocking your stylish looks. Make sure it falls into one of the four provided categories!

Okay, so, if you enter this contest you need to leave me a comment to let me know! Because, if I get more than 10 of my readers to enter this contest I also get to give one of them a $50 gift certificate to Shopbop.com! One reader will be chosen at random from the comments section of my page.

Good luck!

I haven't entered the contest (yet - I might go home and do it, in which case I'll let you know!) but I wanted to comment on the free giveaways. Yes, it gets people interested in the product. It's the idea that if you try something and like it you're more likely to recommend it to friends. But it's also about gathering information. Information is incredibly valuable, because if you have names, addresses, emails, etc, you can market to more people. And depending on your privacy policy you can make money by selling that information to other companies.

ModernTanguera: I think you bring up an excellent point. Many contests are designed in order to glean information. However, most information is used internally within the company. All contests are required to have User Agreements and Privacy Policies. If you are concerned about your information being shared, read their privacy policy. They are required to inform you if they share your information, and most privacy policies guarantee the contestant that they will *not* have their informations shared.

It's always a good idea to read the fine print, especially when giving out information over the internet.

I have never been spammed (via regular mail or email) as the result from signing up for a contest. I have, however, been catalogue spammed when I purchased stuff from Urban Outfitters and Delias. Oi vey!

What Moderntanguera is talking about is called dataveillance. I teach it to my students in the mass media studies and advertising courses I teach at university. Anyway, I just entered but I have no idea if I was supposed to title my look with one of those style types. I gave it my own name and it said I was entered. Thanks for the heads up on this!

Jessph, thanks for letting me know. I will look into it further!

Oh how I hope they don't choose the winners based on style! I gave them a pretty good example of my lack of style since my newborn and hoped they'd take pity on me and grace me with a beautiful watch. Good thing your contest is random!

I want to call myself a Funky Fashionista because that sounds well, so funky! Like I am all urban or cool or something. Instead of a mom from the 'burbs.

Amazing giveaway!

come on over to wecovet.com for our giveaways too!

I just entered!

and If I don't win, i'll blame the lack of megapixels in my camera, rather than my own styling shortcomings XD
