Fashion for Four Eyes

If you're like me, maybe you're one of these:

When I was younger, I had no "cool" options for glasses. For years, I was stuck with baby-blue plastic monstrosities that covered 65% of my face. Luckily, it was the 80's and everyone else was suffering from face-swallowing glasses too.

Lucky for me (and Bill Gates), modern eyewear is far more sleek and stylish. I now wear some pretty cool glasses, and there are thousands of options given to me from some of the best fashion designers around. It wasn't until the 21st century that design houses like Chanel, Fendi, Burberry and Dolce & Gabbana started making eyewear, but I'm so glad they did. Suddenly, glasses were fashionable and mainstream. The bullies of my youth wouldn't dare call Kate Moss four eyes, would they?

There are a lot of cool kids that wear glasses now, including one of my faves: Tina Fey.

Now, I am a proud four eyes, and not just because I'm in the glasses-wearing company of celebrities. It's also because glasses are part of my identity. I cannot imagine life without them. I've been wearing glasses since second grade, and my severe astigmatism prohibits the use of contacts. I am frequently on the prowl for fashionable frames, so, I rounded up some of my favorite eyewear styles right now to share with my readers who might be peering at this screen through lenses:

Ooooooo I love the Chanels! I may always think of you with the big blues though. Ah, youth.

I've never been able to keep a pair of glasses for more than 3 months. I sat on my last one and the frame totally broke up into near atoms (no, I am NOT more than 50 kilos). I hate wearing contacts because they cause severe irritation sometimes. And I'm mortally terrified of laser correction. If only someone gifts me that gorgeous little Chanel or Dior frame... *sigh*. Perhaps I should see if I can find similar ones in cheaper versions till I can pinch and save up enough for the real versions.

I'm lovin' the geek trend, but my 12 yr. old daughter is saying, "NO WAY, Mom!!" But what are parents put on the earth for if not to embarrass their children??

A lot of people now see eye glasses as a fashion statement. This helps people get into wearing corrective spectacles without the threat of being ridiculed.
