If you could only wear one pair of shoes for fall/winter, what color would they be? Why?
I hate to think of some remote and tragic future where I'm consigned to one pair of shoes. Dread courses through my body at the very thought of it. But, we're playing the "what if" game, and I can play along.
First, I'm going to limit my response to a type: boots. I am obsessed with boots. Have I mentioned that? I believe I have (in fact, I mention my love of boots about as often as I mention my love of Alternative Apparel, and The Plaza District, i.e., a lot). I love boots because I think they are sexy, and they are a good choice for winter because they tend to be very warm. Boots far outnumber any other item in my closet, and I'm so in love with them that I try to get away with wearing them even in August (bad idea...sweaty feet).
My first answer to this question was, "Red, fire-engine red." This is not a practical response for two reasons: 1) It's nearly impossible to find fire-engine red boots anywhere, and 2) Red is not the kind of shade that goes with everything.
For the most part, I'm a pragmatic person. When it comes to fashion, I'm less pragmatic. I make some bold and/or irreverent choices that aren't always met with public approval, but I think I get points for creativity. Even after assessing the practicality of a single pair of bright red boots to get me through the winter blahs, I'm still for it. However, the practical part of me wants me to choose a more predictable shade like black. There's nothing wrong with a black pair of boots, especially if they're done up with fun hardware or metal studs or something. Yet, I still don't want to settle my answer on "black."
Instead, I'm going to go with another color entirely and say "gray." It's a neutral shade, but it's still a little bit to the left of "common." A typical pair of black boots just doesn't suit High Fashion Girl (If that's to be her only pair.) ( I'm now officially sorry for referring to myself in the third person. I hereby grant you permission to smack my pretentious rear). If I had to wear only one pair of shoes for fall/winter my choice would be gray boots. They go with pretty much anything, and they'll keep my dainty little feet warm.
As to specific boots, I would select any of these:

penelope and coco Riina Distressed Leather Boots

COSTUME NATIONAL High-heeled boots

FRANCESCO MORICHETTI High-heeled boots
I hope this answers the why and the wherefore enough for you guys.
Thanks for the fun question, Ashley!

Love your choices of boots here!
I would have to pick brown. I am a huge fan of all shades and the majority of my closet is set in brown tones :)

I love that first pair of boots. And also the idea of red boots. Now where to find some on a part-time nonprofit worker's budget.....
May I recommend GoJane.com (http://www.gojane.com/freshshoes.html). Now, you'll have to wade through some tacky shoes, but they have some really awesome ones and they are SUPER cheap. I have several pairs of shoes from there and they are my favorite. It's not the best quality (you get what you pay for), but so far, none of them have hurt my feet or fallen apart.
I love the second pair of boots here. As far as living with only one pair of boots (I'd go for a pair in rich brown), I think that'd be a total fashion and style hell. I like the idea of red boots... though I'd probably call my shade "letter-box red". I recently found a proper cobbler style boots shop hidden in my city. They make such affordable, gorgeous customised boots that I think I'm going to die of happiness in that shop.
Boots! In black or brown. Any shape, length, heel, no heel doesn't matter! Boots are my weak spot. I tend to buy at least one pair a year since I moved to Oklahoma. Have a pair I haven't even worn yet and a few I have worn once!
Great site. A lot of useful information here. I’m sending it to some friends!
