I never thought I'd say this, but I love where I live. Oklahoma City has gone from being the representation of all that was lacking in my life to being a more fulfilling city to live in than I had ever imagined. I've watched this city blossom in the past few years, and it is in large part due to the locally owned establishments that have brought culture, art and progress to a city more closely associated with tornadoes and cows than fashion shows and graffiti murals. If you love this city as much as I do, you'll be pretty happy about the Christmas present I've created for my local readers!
I want you to shop locally for Christmas. That's what I'm doing. I'm committed to spending at least 50% of my holiday budget here in Oklahoma City at locally owned shops, stores and boutiques. There are a myriad of reasons why I'm choosing to do this, not the least of which are:
1) It keeps local businesses thriving.
2) It guarantees that I'll find unique presents for those on my list.
3) It strengthens the arts and retail community in this city.
4) It cuts down on emissions by buying things locally made or sold that haven't been trucked or flown in to big box retail stores from all over the country/globe.
